For 4 months now, Dulari Chaudhary has been working with TSM. She initially worked on an auto corner, but now she handles ring frame. She describes her tragic tale of how she got enrolled in TSM. Originally, her husband worked permanently with TSM. But one day, while returning home from work, he came across an accident and died on the spot. It’s been 2 years and 6 months and she still keeps in her a locket of his photo in his memory.

Before her involvement with TSM, she worked in a classic company that was closed due to covid-19 lockdown results. While I am under pressure from my in-laws not to work outside home, I chose to work because I need income to raise two kids. When I reach here on cycle, I get scared every day, what if even I experience an accident? Who is going to look after my kids?  Who’s sure of what’s going to happen tomorrow?

I had no money left after the business I was operating closed down. Because of my husband’s loyalty, I pleaded with TSM management; they trusted me and set me a position for training then for a job after the interview process.

TSM has different facilities listed for female employees, unlike many factories, there is also flexibility in work patterns, hours do not count, but that’s where it matters if you offer output. Initially, in other firms, I had to work 12 hours straight on heavy machines. Here on reeling, as giving production counts, it is quite convenient for me; I have less anxiety.

I live half an hour away from the factory. They have provided accommodation facilities here as well, but I have other duties to look after my in-laws. My first born is studying in Kathmandu, I have access to a bank account due to work, and I can pass education fees to my son easily.

Though work is highly restricted by my in laws rules, I prefer to work for my two sons. One of the key reasons behind my decision to work is that, as my children grow up and has their own obligations; my children are young and unmarried now. I’ll have to support myself and take care of myself. So, my drive to work is to protect my future as I have very closely seen ill-fated things that can happen in life any moment.

She finally questions an interviewer which interviewer was unable to answer “ meroumerdheraichiana, jamma 30 barsakobhaye, pandrabarsadekhibudasathmaihununthyo, dubai le gharsamhalulasochekothiyeu, taraek din koghatna le sabaichaknachurparidiyo, merobudahyathaithiyo mam, meroduitachora cha hernuparne, paisa komahatwaeutaeklaobidhuwakokamaibahekkoslaithahuncha, k meropanihyathiahunchasakcha?”
